Sergio Chavez-Morales, aged 38, found himself under arrest on December 26, 2025, following disturbing reports from witnesses who claimed he threw a 5-month-old baby across a hallway within a Milwaukee apartment building. The unsettling incident reportedly occurred on December 22, 2025, when officers from the Milwaukee Police Department responded to a weapons complaint, according to a criminal complaint sourced by local CBS affiliate WDJT.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that Chavez-Morales was allegedly being pursued by a 19-year-old woman wielding a knife. However, the woman provided a harrowing account to the police, stating that she witnessed Chavez-Morales seize the infant and fling the child across the hallway.

Local Fox affiliate WITI reported that authorities managed to separate and interview both Chavez-Morales and the young woman involved. The woman recounted to the police how Chavez-Morales “grabbed” the baby and “threw” the child “across the hallway,” causing the infant to cry out in distress.

The criminal complaint further revealed that multiple witnesses at the scene corroborated the woman’s story, describing how Chavez-Morales allegedly hurled the baby either across the hallway or onto the floor. These serious allegations paint a grim picture of the incident, as law enforcement continues to investigate the troubling claims.

The complaint said several other witnesses at the scene told police close to the same story, saying that Chavez-Morales allegedly threw the baby across the hallway or to the ground.

Police said that the baby was taken to Children’s Wisconsin hospital for treatment, and “no immediate fractured bones could be observed.”

Court records show that Chavez-Morales is awaiting trial for separate strangulation and disorderly conduct charges. That trial was scheduled to begin on Jan. 5.

Chavez-Morales was placed under arrest and booked into the Milwaukee County Jail. He was charged with child abuse and bail jumping. After his initial court appearance, Chavez-Morales’ bond was set at $3,000 cash, which he posted on Wednesday. He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 2.
