Wireless chargers that attach to the back of smartphones are being recalled due to potential fire and burn hazards.

WASHINGTON — On Thursday, over 20,000 Isla Rae Magnetic Wireless Chargers were recalled in both the United States and Canada because of the risk they could catch fire or cause burns.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that these chargers “may explode while in use, presenting a risk of fire and burns.”

Approximately 13,200 units were distributed in the United States, with an additional 3,000 sold in Canada.

The affected chargers can be identified by model numbers RM5PBMDP, RM5PBMSL, and RM5PBMPW, which are located on the side of the device beneath the “5000 mAh 3.7V” label.

Isla Rae offered these chargers in colors white, pink, and purple, selling them at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls stores across the nation from June 2024 to March 2025.

No injuries have been reported.

Customers are urged to stop using the chargers, which can attach magnetically to the back of smart phones, and register for a recall here. The website is for U.S. customers. Canadian customers can call 888-256-1564 for more information.

Once the refund is initiated, it will come in the form of a physical check and the customer can get rid of the charger per their local laws regarding lithium ion batteries. Do not throw these charges away in household trashcans.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission requests people not throw away the recalled unit since the battery can cause fires. Contact your local municipal household hazardous waste collection center to see where you can properly dispose of the recalled charger.
