The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has reported that a suspect, already incarcerated for other offenses, has now been linked to a deadly shooting incident.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Authorities have detained a suspect in connection with a shooting that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

On the evening of Wednesday, June 11, 2025, law enforcement officers were dispatched to the Vista Landing Apartment Complex on Cleveland Road following reports of a shooting involving multiple victims.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered four individuals suffering from gunshot injuries. While three of the victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, 18-year-old Marcus Thompson tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Detectives from the JSO Homicide Unit have identified 22-year-old Samuel Chaney as the main suspect in the case, as stated by the sheriff’s office.

The JSO confirmed that Chaney was taken into custody on Friday, noting that he was already jailed on separate charges at the time of his arrest.

“Our hearts go out to Thompson’s loved ones, and we will continue to seek justice for him,” JSO says.
