Veteran actor T.K. Carter, known for 'The Thing' and 'Punky Brewster,' dies at 69

T.K. Carter, a seasoned actor known for his roles in the iconic horror movie “The Thing” and the television series “Punky Brewster,” has passed away at 69 in Duarte, California.

Carter’s passing was confirmed on Friday evening when deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of an unresponsive man in Duarte.

While authorities have yet to release the cause of death, they have indicated that there is no suspicion of foul play.

Born Thomas Kent “T.K.” Carter on December 18, 1956, in New York City, he spent his formative years in Southern California.

Carter embarked on his entertainment career in stand-up comedy before transitioning to acting. His portrayal of Nauls, the cook, in John Carpenter’s 1982 horror film “The Thing” marked a significant turning point in his career. Additionally, he was known for his recurring role on the 1980s sitcom “Punky Brewster.”

His filmography includes notable roles in “Runaway Train” (1985), “Ski Patrol” (1990), and the beloved “Space Jam” (1996).

“T.K. Carter was a consummate professional and a genuine soul whose talent transcended genres,” his publicist, Tony Freeman, said in a statement. “He brought laughter, truth, and humanity to every role he touched. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of artists and fans alike.”
