In a recent conversation with CNN, Timmy Macklin Sr., the former father-in-law of Renee Nicole Good, expressed his thoughts on the recent tragedy involving her fatal shooting by an ICE agent. Despite the national debate surrounding the incident, Macklin, a supporter of former President Trump, emphasized the importance of turning to religion to find peace. “Renee was an incredible person—full of life, joy, and kindness. She was also a wonderful mother,” Macklin shared, hoping for a de-escalation of tensions surrounding her death.
Macklin reflected on the broader societal issues, noting, “We often make poor decisions, and that’s a significant problem today amidst the global chaos. It’s crucial that we seek guidance from God, allowing His spirit to lead us.” Renee was previously married to Macklin’s son, who passed away in 2023, leaving behind a six-year-old son now under Macklin’s care. When pressed by CNN’s Erin Burnett about the justification of Good’s shooting, Macklin refrained from assigning blame, stating, “It’s a difficult situation for everyone involved.”
Macklin Says He Doesn’t Blame Anyone
“I don’t hold ICE accountable, nor do I blame Rebecca or Renee,” Macklin continued, highlighting his belief that walking with God might have prevented the tragedy. Initially, Macklin had not seen the footage capturing the confrontation between Good and ICE agent Jon Ross. Upon reviewing the video, he noted that it seemed as though Ross was “rammed” by Good’s vehicle—a perspective contested by Democratic officials in Minneapolis.
‘You know, in a flash like that, it’s hard to say how you’d react,’ he continued. Macklin referenced a separate incident six months prior that also saw Ross hit with a car while working for ICE, and said that may have played into the incident as he described it as a ‘hard situation for everybody’. He said Good’s wife Rebecca, who was seen in footage taunting Ross in the moments before the shooting, was ‘also a great person’ and said he felt no ill-will toward her. ‘But you know, I think there was some bad choices,’ he added.
Macklin’s Message To Ross
Burnett said Ross has gone ‘into hiding’ since the shooting due to the severe media attention on him, and asked what his message to Ross would be, Macklin said: ‘Well, this world is full of trials and tribulations.’ Macklin said he saw footage that appeared to show Ross call Good a ‘[expletive] [expletive]’ after shooting her, which he said showed ‘he doesn’t know the Lord like he should.’ It comes as it was revealed Wednesday that Ross suffered internal bleeding following the altercation withGood. Sources told CBS News that Ross suffered internal bleeding in his torso. The extent of his condition remains unclear as internal bleeding can also be classified as a bruise or contusion that causes mild or serious injury.

Mother-of-three Good was seen in a now-viral video ignoring demands by federal agents to get out of her maroon Honda Pilot, reversing the vehicle, and then trying to drive off during the protest. She was then shot in the face before crashing her car. Ross, 43, was seen walking away after the incident.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said he was taken to the hospital afterward and released the same day. The moment quickly became highly publicized, with one side saying Good, 37, was intentionally trying to hit Ross, and the other saying she was just trying to drive away. Following Good’s death Noem, President Trump, and Vice President JD Vance said she was allegedly after Ross that day, and that she committed ‘domestic terrorism’ and wasa ‘professional agitator’. But on Monday, the poet’s grieving family said that is not at all who Good was, and denied that she has a criminal pastas many online users have alleged.
