Tepe Murders: Accused Stone-faced Killer Surgeon Tormented Former Wife Before Shootings

In Illinois, a surgeon is facing serious allegations after being accused of shooting his ex-wife, Monique Tepe, and her husband, Spencer Tepe, who was also the father of her two children. Reports suggest that nearly ten years ago, during their short-lived marriage, Michael D. McKee allegedly threatened Monique’s life on several occasions.

Authorities apprehended McKee, aged 39, at a Chick-fil-A in Rockford, Illinois, on January 10, 2026. He is charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of Monique and Spencer Tepe. The charges have since been intensified to premeditated aggravated murder.

Investigators have discovered neighborhood surveillance footage that captures the suspect’s vehicle arriving at and departing from the Tepe’s Ohio neighborhood around the time of the murders.

During a search of McKee’s luxurious condo in Chicago, law enforcement uncovered multiple firearms. Preliminary ballistic tests indicate that one of these weapons is likely linked to the crime scene of the Tepe murders.

Just twelve weeks prior to these accusations, McKee was embroiled in a malpractice lawsuit initiated by a Nevada man. The plaintiff claimed that McKee had become elusive, making it difficult to serve him with legal documents.

Attorney Dan Laird, representing the Nevada case, encountered significant challenges in locating McKee. The surgical group associated with McKee reportedly provided a false address, and the contact number listed by the state medical board turned out to be a fax machine, complicating the process further.
