Katy Perry arrives at Davos with Justin Trudeau

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau were spotted today making their entrance at Davos, joining a mix of celebrities and political figures as European leaders prepared for potential confrontations with Donald Trump.

The 41-year-old pop sensation and the 54-year-old former Canadian Prime Minister were seen together, strolling into the prestigious World Economic Forum held annually in Switzerland. This year’s meeting promises to be heavily influenced by the actions and presence of the U.S. President.

French President Emmanuel Macron took the stage at the forum, emphasizing the current era of ‘instability and imbalance.’ He remarked, “We’re transitioning to a world without rules.”

Macron urged Europe to utilize the tools at its disposal to safeguard its interests firmly.

Although Macron refrained from directly mentioning Donald Trump, he alluded to the numerous conflicts in 2025 and commented, “I understand some have been resolved. We favor respect over intimidation.”

Earlier in the day, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen criticized President Trump for his tariff threats aimed at EU allies concerning Greenland.

Von der Leyen said the new tariffs would risk ‘plunging Europe into a downward spiral’ and play into the hands of foreign adversaries, such as China and Russia.

She vowed to ‘build a new form of European independence’ out of the geopolitical row – which will come to a head once Trump arrives in Davos to meet his European counterparts.

She was responding to Trump’s announcement that starting February, a 10 per cent import tax will be imposed goods from eight European nations that have rallied around Denmark in the wake of his stepped up calls for the United States to take over the semi-autonomous Danish territory of Greenland.

Overnight Trump trolled European leaders with an AI image of them looking at a map showing Greenland and Canada as US territory in the Oval Office.

The photo, posted on the President’s Truth Social platform, showed leaders including Sir Keir Starmer, France’s Macron and Italy’s Giorgia Meloni gathered around Trump’s desk.

Trump also posted a text exchange he shared with the Secretary General of Nato, Mark Rutte, during which the official wrote: ‘I am committed to finding a way forward on Greenland. Can’t wait to see you. Yours, Mark.’

The altered image appears to be an edited version of a photograph taken during August 2025, when European leaders visited Washington for the US President’s phone call with Vladimir Putin.

In the original version of the image, the leaders are gathered near a whiteboard, showing a map depicting the front line of the Ukraine conflict.

In the altered one, the presentation board has been edited so that a US flag covers North America, Canada and Greenland.

Von der Leyen’s speech arrived as European allies weigh up whether to deploy their so-called trade ‘bazooka’ for the first time in retaliation to Trump’s threats – an economic tool that would hit the US with £81 billion in tariffs.

Trump has in recent days ramped up pressure on his European allies to accept his plans to seize Greenland, contributing towards an increasingly acrimonious trans-Atlantic row.

He wrote on Truth Social on Sunday: ‘NATO has been telling Denmark, for 20 years, that “you have to get Russian threat away from Greenland”. Unfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it. Now it is time, and it will be done!!!’

Trump is expected to arrive on Wednesday to the Swiss mountain resort, where he is due to deliver a special address.

Last night, anti-Trump protesters rocked Zurich, burning US flags and targeting American-owned stores ahead of his arrival in Davos.

Companies affected included luxury car brand Cadillac as well as international corporation Nestlé.
