In a significant development from Tallahassee, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has announced the arrest of Teagen Marie Targhuhanuchi, a 41-year-old resident of Titusville. The arrest, which took place on January 14 in Alachua County, stems from allegations of fraudulent voter registration activities, linked to her involvement with Smart & Safe Florida.

Attorney General Uthmeier delivered a stern message in response to the incident, stating, “There is no excuse for a mega marijuana corporation and its affiliates to fraudulently hijack Florida’s Constitution. This behavior is a direct attack on election integrity, and we will hold anyone who commits or participates in these crimes fully accountable.”

The investigation revealed that Targhuhanuchi, serving as a paid petition circulator for Smart & Safe Florida, attended various events to gather signatures for ballot initiative 25-01. This initiative aims to legalize recreational marijuana use in the state. However, during the signature collection process, she allegedly misappropriated personal information from the signees. This information was then used without consent to deceitfully complete and submit voter registration forms.

The charges against Targhuhanuchi are serious, including 12 counts of Identity Theft, 12 counts of Submission of Fraudulent Voter Information, and an additional count of Identity Theft affecting more than 10 individuals.

This case came to light following an investigation by the Office of Election Crimes & Security, in collaboration with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The inquiry was initiated after a report from the Charlotte County Supervisor of Elections raised alarms.
