A Sydney man accused of impersonating a Disney casting agent has been released on bail following a court appearance today.

The 57-year-old, residing in the city’s inner-west, allegedly enticed aspiring young actors with fraudulent promises of acting roles, soliciting sexual favors in return.

Law enforcement officers descended on Gerard Vamadevan’s Lewisham residence around 9 a.m. yesterday, confiscating various documents and electronic devices as evidence.

The investigation, initiated by detectives last November, began after receiving reports of a man allegedly producing fake documents to impersonate a casting agent for a prominent international company, with the aim of exchanging fake television and film roles for sexual favors.

Among the alleged victims is a 17-year-old girl.

In a statement, Vamadevan reportedly commented, “I was lonely and looking for a bit of company.”

As he represented himself in court today, he said he thought he was within the law.
