A 36-year-old man, consumed by anger, awaited his wife and her lover in a California hotel’s parking lot, ultimately attacking and fatally stabbing them both upon their arrival.

Kenny Wu was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his wife Yaying “YaYa” Wu and her lover Jesus Sanchez in Palm Desert, according to the Riverside County District Attorney”s Office.

On July 15, 2022, authorities were called to the SpringHill Suites hotel following reports of an assault involving a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a man and a woman suffering from stab wounds, both of whom were declared dead at the scene. Nearby, they found Kenny Wu with self-inflicted injuries. He was treated by paramedics before being taken to the hospital and subsequently arrested.

Prosecutors revealed during the trial that Wu’s violent actions were triggered by his wife’s firm decision to seek a divorce. The prosecution presented evidence illustrating a backdrop of stalking, domestic violence, infidelity, and persistent marital strife that culminated in the tragic encounter.

According to a report by City News Service, Wu’s defense attorney, John Dolan, explained to the jury that Wu had discovered his wife’s affair several months before the incident. Although Wu initially attempted to reconcile and forgive, his jealousy spiraled out of control as the affair continued, Dolan stated.

On the day of the murders, Wu learned of a planned meeting between his wife and her lover, Sanchez, at the SpringHill Suites. Lying in wait, he attacked them upon their arrival.

“The rage just exploded,” Dolan recounted to the jury.

He attacked both victims, stabbing them multiple times.

Prosecutors reportedly said Kenny Wu needed to be held accountable for his actions. The jury agreed.

The defendant will be sentenced on April 17.
