A Virginia man accused of opening fire inside a Richmond home, wounding his girlfriend and killing her two teenage children, is now moving toward trial.
Levy Nelson, 41, has been charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of aggravated murder, in connection with the deaths of 18-year-old Zion Terry and 14-year-old Sadie Terry, according to a Richmond Police Department announcement last spring.
Nelson has since been ruled competent to stand trial, Richmond NBC affiliate WWBT reported.
The children’s mother survived the shooting, but Zion and Sadie died from their injuries.
A GoFundMe created to support the grieving mother described the Richmond family as enduring a “heartbreaking and unimaginable tragedy,” noting they had lost “an 18-year-old young man who had his entire future ahead of him, and a 14-year-old young girl whose life was just beginning. No family should ever have to endure this kind of pain.”
Nelson was not found at the home when police arrived. Authorities appealed to the public for help locating him and his pickup truck, and he was later taken into custody following a manhunt.
Police have said they had not previously been called to the residence for reports of domestic violence. Investigators have not publicly detailed what may have happened in the moments leading up to the deadly shooting.
Nelson is scheduled to go to trial on April 19, 2027.
