SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Seminole County Public Schools is currently examining an incident at Millwee Middle School that came to light after a video was shared on social media, depicting an encounter between a student and a security guard.

The footage, which was uploaded to Facebook on Wednesday, has garnered over 4,000 views. According to the student’s mother, the video captures her son being struck by a golf cart following a fight at the school.

News 6 has reached out to both Seminole County Public Schools and the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office to obtain further clarification regarding the events that transpired.

A representative from the school district informed News 6 that they are aware of the situation and are actively investigating. Moreover, the spokesperson noted that law enforcement found no criminal activity, and the Department of Children and Families decided not to pursue the case.

The News 6 team also had the opportunity to speak with Marwan Taylor, the student involved, along with his mother.

Taylor provided his account of the events that unfolded on Wednesday, offering insight from his perspective.

“This kid, he was talking trash about me. So I asked him if he wanted to fight,” said Taylor. “As we were about to fight, we’re in the middle of the field, and he was pushing me backwards. And the security guard came super-fast with his cart and hit me.”

Taylor was knocked to the ground, which you can see in the video.

“I managed to get up because the adrenaline (was) pumping through me,” said Taylor. “But after, like, ten minutes or so, my leg started hurting very bad, and it was hard to walk.”

Jodashia Smith, the boy’s mother, said she found out about what happened when her son called her.

“He was crying. He was all over the place. He was hysterical,” Smith said.

Smith shared her reaction to the video.

“I was upset,” said Smith. “You see both kids going in a direction that you’re speeding, too. You didn’t even step on the brakes. You didn’t even try to prevent hitting him. So no, I don’t feel like none of it was accidental at all.”

Smith said she took her son to the hospital and was told he did not have any broken bones or fractures. She was concerned about him hitting his head.

“End of the day, I want to know what happened,” said Smith.

News 6 also asked the school district for more information about the security guard, who is an SCPS employee. A spokesperson said he is still working at Millwee Middle School while this matter is under investigation.

“This is a personnel matter, and it is being handled accordingly,” the spokesperson continued.
