North Carolina authorities revealed on Wednesday the capture of a third individual suspected in a violent overnight home invasion. This incident allegedly involved several illegal immigrants who subjected at least one person to kidnapping, burglary, and forced sexual acts, akin to rape.

The Pitt County Sheriff reported that detectives apprehended 22-year-old John Carlos Calderon on Monday in connection with the February 11 incident in Greenville, which resulted in the victim being hospitalized.

Calderon, who is also from Greenville, was arrested alongside two other individuals already in custody: Jonathan David Garcia-Lario, a 20-year-old without a permanent address, and Zaid Mayen, a 21-year-old resident of Chapel Hill.

Authorities are still examining Calderon’s immigration status. He is currently being held without the possibility of bail at the Pitt County Detention Center.

John Carlos Calderon has been identified as the third suspect linked to this severe home invasion in North Carolina, underscoring the gravity of the charges he and the other suspects face.

All three individuals are charged with first-degree felonies, including forcible sexual assault, kidnapping, burglary, and the use of a deadly weapon with the intent to kill, resulting in serious injury.

Garcia-Lario was first arrested last Friday in connection with the attack, followed later that day by Mayen.

Evidence was also found at an apartment in Chapel Hill, the city where Mayen resides roughly two hours from the crime scene, police said.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was notified, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed detainers on both illegal immigrants, instructing local authorities to extend their custody, allowing federal agents to assume control.

Garcia-Lario remains held without bond at the Pitt County Detention Center alongside Calderon, while Mayen was booked into the Orange County Detention Center, also without bond.

Pitt County Sheriff said the investigation and subsequent arrests were assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service, the Chapel Hill Police Department, and the Major Crimes and Forensic Services Units.

Authorities said the victim was taken to a local hospital by ambulance but did not confirm the nature or extent of their injuries.
