A recent incident in West Hollywood has drawn attention after a security guard was filmed aggressively hitting a homeless man.

The altercation occurred on February 15 at West Hollywood Park. Video footage shows the guard, easily recognizable in a yellow jacket, delivering a series of blows to the man’s head from behind, according to KTLA.

The video captures the homeless man attempting to defend himself as the guard continues his assault. At one stage, it seems as though the man might collapse under the force of the attack, but another guard intervenes to stop the violence and separate the two.

Onlookers were visibly shocked as the confrontation played out in the middle of the day. The reason behind the violent exchange is still unknown.

“It’s very concerning,” local resident Breanna Startzel shared with KTLA. “Those tasked with ensuring our safety should not be involved in hitting, kicking, or attacking others.”

The guard involved has been identified as part of the Security Ambassador Program, which hires personnel from the private security company Allied Universal to oversee patrols in West Hollywood. These ambassadors wear uniforms but do not carry weapons.

The guard was identified as a member of the Security Ambassador Program, which contracts workers from private security giant Allied Universal to patrol the streets of West Hollywood. The ambassadors are uniformed but unarmed.

City officials said in a statement that ambassadors are expected to treat all individuals — including those experiencing homelessness — with “dignity and respect,” adding that accountability and transparency are essential.

“The Security Ambassadors program is designed to enhance safety in West Hollywood,” a city spokesperson said. “Ambassadors are expected to conduct themselves professionally and in accordance with the city’s standards, including treating every individual, including those experiencing homelessness, with dignity and respect. Accountability and transparency are essential.”

An investigation remains ongoing.
