San Francisco neighborhood trashed after Red Bull event

San Francisco Neighborhood Faces Cleanup Challenge After Red Bull Event Leaves Behind Chaos

A San Francisco neighborhood is in uproar following a Red Bull Formula One event that left the area in disarray, with streets littered and properties damaged.

Residents expressed their frustration on social media, with one Reddit user detailing the chaos: “People were climbing onto residents’ houses, standing on parked cars, and damaging trees and bushes. Hundreds of Lime scooters were abandoned, blocking pathways and forcing pedestrians into the street. Cars were parked blocking driveways, and some people even relieved themselves on residents’ homes and shrubs.”

The user continued, “The behavior was absolutely appalling, and the crowd control was terrible. It was a poorly executed event.”

The Red Bull Showrun, held on Saturday, attracted a crowd of over 40,000, but it left locals along Marina Boulevard to deal with the mess left behind.

Describing the scene as “chaos” and “poorly planned,” some residents were left frustrated.

“Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this is someone’s property and home,” a resident of Marina Boulevard, who wished to remain anonymous, told the San Francisco Standard.

“Folks are just upset,” she added.

Broken branches and plant pots were scattered along sidewalks, and some garage doors and windows were damaged.

In videos posted to Instagram, thousands of people could be seen crowding the area and climbing traffic and street signs to get a better view due to the lack of tiered seating. Some even cut down branches to gain a higher vantage point.

Others noted what they described as a lack of police presence.

“Horribly planned event,” another Reddit user wrote. “They severely underestimated the amount of people and didn’t pay the city for the OT for enough police presence. Why weren’t there bleachers?”

Some said there were only two points of entry and exit at Marina Green, so crowd flow quickly became gridlocked.

One attendee said attempts to leave near Fort Mason turned into a standstill as waves of people trying to enter collided with those trying to exit, forcing some to climb down onto the marina rocks to escape.

At one point, sections of the crowd began chanting “please turn around” in an effort to ease the congestion before others ultimately exited near the Palace of Fine Arts.

The local news site reached out to the mayor’s office — the mayor had suited up in F1 gear and driven a race car across the street during the event — but officials deferred comment to Red Bull, which did not respond to requests.
