A tragic incident in Morton Grove, Illinois, has led to serious charges against a man accused of fatally striking an elderly pedestrian while allegedly driving under the influence. The local police revealed on Thursday that the suspect is facing charges of DUI and reckless homicide following the October accident.

Authorities suspect that Jesus Guzman, a Joliet resident, was behind the wheel of a 2025 Volkswagen Jetta traveling east on Dempster Street. He allegedly collided with Boris A. Nudelman, an 89-year-old from Skokie, who was attempting to cross the street heading south.

Nudelman suffered severe injuries and was swiftly taken to Lutheran General Hospital. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries, as reported by the police.

Following a thorough investigation, police have charged Guzman with reckless homicide involving a motor vehicle and driving under the influence of drugs. Additionally, he faces citations for speeding and operating a vehicle with tinted front windows.

During Guzman’s pretrial arraignment on Friday, a judge decided against the state’s request to hold him in custody, allowing him to remain free until further proceedings.

Guzman was released on electronic monitoring and is due back in court on March 27.

Further information was not immediately available.
