President Trump has agreed to grant a visa to the mother of a 15-year-old Bronx boy who was fatally shot on his way to school, allowing her to travel from Ghana to New York City to mourn her son in person, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Saturday.
“The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone from thousands of miles away,” the mayor wrote on X.
“Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves the chance to say goodbye to her son in person. I just got off the phone with President Trump, and he has agreed to grant her visa immediately. All of New York City is mourning this tragedy.”
Harrowing video appears to show Frimpong sprinting for his life through his Claremont neighborhood Thursday beside another person dressed entirely in black. That individual stopped while the 15-year-old continued running.
The teenager had been heading to school when he collapsed at East 171st Street and Third Avenue after being shot in the stomach at about 9:25 a.m., according to police and law enforcement sources. He was initially listed in stable condition but later died from his injuries.
Frimpong had recently immigrated to the United States from Ghana. His father, 60-year-old Thomas Frimpong, told The Post that his son had been bullied at 329 The DreamYard Preparatory School and that he believes the harassment may have been connected to the killing.
Police have not identified a suspect or disclosed a possible motive for the shooting.
The socialist mayor and Republican president have developed an unlikely relationship since Mamdani took office, driven in part by their shared affinity for New York City.
The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
