CHICAGO (WLS) — The Democratic National Committee has placed Chicago on its shortlist of potential hosts for the Democratic National Conventions in 2028 and 2032, as announced on Monday.
In February, representatives from Chicago’s Bid Committee engaged with the DNC to address inquiries regarding the city’s proposal.

“Building on the memorable success of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, Chicago is thrilled to be considered once more for hosting the DNC. With our proven expertise in managing large-scale events, coupled with our dynamic and diverse culture and global appeal, we are confident that Chicago can deliver a convention that echoes the excitement and success of the 2024 DNC. Our team, which orchestrated the premier political convention for Democrats, is ready to rise to the occasion again,” expressed the Chicago Bid Committee in a statement.
Chicago was the successful host of the 2024 convention.
ABC7 Chicago learned that Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson formed a team a few months back to investigate the possibility. The official bids were submitted on January 9.
The DNC has requested that Chicago’s Host Committee submit proposals for both 2028 and 2032, although some insiders suggest that the 2032 convention might be a more practical option for the city.
Other cities that advanced include Atlanta, Boston, Denver and Philadelphia.
“The DNC is proud to be moving forward with our 2028 Democratic National Convention plans, another critical step toward retaking the White House and finally putting an end to Republicans’ betrayal of working families. We look forward to celebrating our future nominees on the national stage and highlighting Democrats’ commitment to building a better, safer, and more affordable future for our country,” DNC Chair Ken Martin said in a statement.
