Unforeseen Chemical Incident at Disneyland Hospitalizes Seven Workers: Safety Measures Under Review

A chemical reaction during renovation work at Disneyland led to seven employees being hospitalized on Tuesday, after exposure to a harmful odor in a backstage area caused symptoms like dizziness and shortness of breath, according to park officials.

The incident occurred at around 12:30 p.m. when employees detected a strong and unpleasant smell in the backstage vicinity of Tomorrowland’s Star Tours attraction, reported Sgt. Matt Sutter of the Anaheim Police Department.

Several Disneyland cast members who inhaled the fumes received medical attention from paramedics at the site and were subsequently released, officials confirmed.

However, seven employees experienced more severe symptoms and were taken to a local hospital for further treatment.

Sgt. Sutter stated that the hazardous gas originated from materials used by building contractors during the renovation process.

Fortunately, no park visitors were affected by the incident, according to Sutter.

Sutter could not give an update on the condition of the workers sent to the hospital.

Onstage areas in the vicinity of the sickening odor was cleared of guests, park officials said.

The cleared areas reopened for operations around 3 p.m., Sutter said.
