Fail: Old Dominion University Is a Gun-Free Campus

Old Dominion University’s policy to maintain a gun-free campus was tragically breached on Thursday when an armed individual targeted ROTC students.

According to the university’s official website, the “Weapons on Campus” section clearly outlines its stance against firearms.

On that fateful day, 36-year-old Mohamed Bailor Jalloh entered a classroom filled with ROTC students and, after reportedly shouting “Allah Akbar,” proceeded to open fire. NBC News reported that Jalloh wielded a Glock 44 handgun, which is chambered for .22 long rifle rounds.

Despite having a felony conviction dating back to 2017, which legally prohibited him from owning a firearm, Jalloh managed to carry out this attack, highlighting a grave lapse in enforcing both his felony restrictions and the university’s gun-free policy.

Jalloh had a felony conviction from 2017 and was subsequently barred from gun possession, yet neither his felony nor ODU’s gun-free campus policy prevented him from attacking innocents.
