Senator John Cornyn of Texas made a stop at Austin’s airport on Monday, aiming to show support for TSA workers by delivering burgers. However, the event took an unexpected turn when progressive Representative Greg Casar, also from Texas, arrived and the scene quickly escalated into a tense exchange.
Rep. Casar, who leads the Congressional Progressive Caucus, criticized the Republican party for the persistent funding shortfall affecting the Transportation Security Administration. He pointed out this issue despite having voted against funding for the entire Department of Homeland Security.
Cornyn, however, dismissed this proposal as insufficient, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive security funding. He reminded Casar of the recent terrorist threats in the U.S., asserting that “these people are keeping us safe.”
Casar then replied: “Let’s do it … There’s a bipartisan bill that funds just the TSA.”
Cornyn called that unacceptable and reminded Casar of the recent terrorist attacks in the US, stressing that “these people are keeping us safe.”
