JD Vance shut out of Iran war spotlight with new job focused on fraud

Democrats are already taking aim at JD Vance’s recent appointment as the White House’s new ‘Fraud Czar,’ suggesting that the role is merely a way to keep the Vice President occupied amid his diminished visibility in the Iran conflict.

On Monday, President Donald Trump revealed that Vance would helm the newly established White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud. This move comes as the President has openly noted Vance’s tepid engagement with the ongoing issues in Iran.

Critics from the liberal camp argue that Vance’s new role is simply a symbolic gesture, likening it to a ‘participation trophy’ awarded to a Trump ally who lacks a clear agenda in both domestic and international arenas.

“It’s ironic that the party that criticizes participation trophies is handing them out,” a Democratic official commented to the Daily Mail, referencing Vance and another recent appointee, Kristi Noem.

The official added that if Vance is truly committed to tackling fraud and corruption, his efforts should begin by scrutinizing the President’s own family, which the official claims has amassed nearly $2.5 billion during Trump’s presidency.

The announcement of the task force aligns with President Trump’s previous declaration during the State of the Union address, where he emphasized a renewed focus on combating fraud as part of broader government efficiency efforts.

Trump signed an executive order codifying the task force on Monday, making Vance the chairman of the panel focused on closing loopholes, enforcing eligibility rules and protecting benefits from extortion. Trump stressed it could help lower the debt.

Recent benefits fraud scandals in Minnesota, including in Somali-run child care centers, housing stabilization and autism programs and more, have emboldened the White House’s scam-hunting ambitions.

JD Vance Takes on New Role Targeting Fraud, Stepping Back from Iran Conflict Discussions

‘This will not be like a Kamala, where she was put in charge of the border,’ Trump said at the White House event on Monday while next to Vance

‘Vice President Vance is proud to lead the newly announced task force focused on tackling rampant at the forefront of the Administration’s whole-of-government War on Fraud,’ a spokesperson told the Daily Mail.

‘The task force will lead the charge in identifying and prosecuting fraudsters and ensuring states are taking reasonable steps to prevent criminals from ripping off taxpayers.’

Liberal strongholds like California, Illinois and New York are the next targets for Trump’s anti-corruption review, the President has warned.

But Democrats claim Trump and his associates need to be probed. Liberal lawmakers have launched multiple investigations and authored reports into the accumulated wealth, calling the schemes ‘fraudulent’ and ‘corrupt.’

According to Democrats on the House Oversight Committee, the Trump family has profited $2.45 billion from digital assets. Overall, the Trump family’s digital asset portfolio is valued at just under $10 billion, the committee states.

Vance’s new job carried major risks, most notably a new mission that, if left incomplete by 2028, could prove to be a measuring stick to prove the 41-year-old’s inability.

‘It will be blocks of cement around his ankles,’ a senior Democratic official told RealClearPolitics, while another warned it ‘will be an albatross around his neck’ come 2028.

A third liberal strategist told the outlet: ‘It will be incredible to watch – it’s like he just needed a job but can’t have foreign policy.’

Ex-Vice President Kamala Harris was appointed by Joe Biden to be his 'Border Czar,' which, like the new 'Fraud Czar' role, did not exist before

Ex-Vice President Kamala Harris was appointed by Joe Biden to be his ‘Border Czar,’ which, like the new ‘Fraud Czar’ role, did not exist before

Trump said at the White House Monday, while Vance stood next to him, ‘This will not be like a Kamala, where she was put in charge of the border.’

‘You promise?’ the President asked Vance.

‘I promise,’ the GOP 2028 heir apparent replied.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris was notoriously dubbed ex-President Joe Biden’s ‘Border Czar’ in charge of immigration and the US-Mexico border.

Biden never formally dubbed Harris his ‘Border Czar’; her actual remit was diplomatic engagement with Latin American source countries, not immigration enforcement.

Still, with tens of millions of migrants estimated to have crossed during her tenure and just two border visits on her record, Harris proved VP assignments can be politically treacherous.

Trump later sailed to victory in 2024 in large part due to his immigration agenda and the Democratic administration’s fumbling on the matter.
