Vile anti-Semitic slurs in shocking police report that names San Jose attack on Jewish diners a "hate crime"

According to an internal police document, three individuals are accused of launching an unprovoked assault on two elderly Jewish men in San Jose, using antisemitic slurs during the attack. The report categorizes this violent incident as a “hate crime.”

The suspects, identified as 18-year-old Ramon Akoyans, 20-year-old Roma Akoyans, and 32-year-old Bruneil Chamaki, surrendered to the San Jose Police Department on Monday. They are now facing felony assault charges, with Chamaki also charged with misdemeanor battery.

Despite the victims reporting that the attackers shouted phrases like “F— Jews” and “F—ing Jews” before the daytime assault, Santa Clara District Attorney Jeff Rosen has opted not to pursue hate crime charges. This decision comes after police compiled the report based on their on-scene observations.

Witnesses recounted hearing the assailants yell, “Don’t f— with Iran,” as they fled, according to the internal police document acquired by The Post. This remark was included in the officers’ detailed account of the incident.

San Jose Police Department officers, after reviewing the video footage of the attack that took place outside the upscale restaurant Augustine, concluded that the incident was indeed a hate crime against the elderly Hebrew speakers.

The police report documents the incident as occurring on March 8, 2026, at approximately 3:38 PM, at 377 Santana Row in San Jose, California.

“The victims were Jewish and were speaking to each other in Hebrew. Three suspects walked past them and heard the victims speaking Hebrew. One suspect said, “F— jews” and all three suspects began physically assaulting the two victims at the same time.”

In another section of the report, SJPD officers complete a dedicated form for identifying the incident as a “hate crime.”

Police often recommend charges and characterize crimes but in Santa Clara County, where the crime occurred, and elsewhere, it is up to the District Attorney to decide what charges to bring to court.

It’s not clear why Rosen, who is an observant Jew, has so far declined to being hate crime charges in this instance.

Such charges in California require proving that the suspect was motivated by hate. If proven, a hate crime charge carries up to an extra year in jail.

Rosen spokesman Sean Webby said that the DA’s office is still reviewing all the available evidence in the case.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Webby said. “Law enforcement is still trying to figure out exactly what happened.”

Onlookers told police the victims were speaking Hebrew and described when the trio of young men stopped to attack them as they passed by.

Chilling video of the horrifying assault taken by a bystander shows the three suspects attacking the older men with their fists and elbows. The attackers pummeled the older men even after they are knocked to the ground.

One of the suspects holds the legs of one of the victims as another elbows the older man.

Chamaki, the oldest of the three accused assailants, was admitted to the California State Bar in 2023 and was listed as a corporate attorney, according to reports. The law firm he worked for appeared to take down any postings about him online.

The three suspects had a reputation for antisemitism, according to a transcript of an anonymous tip to police that was described in the SJPD report.

An anonymous caller told SJPD that that he grew up with two of the suspects and that the assault “was not random.”

The caller said he had recently heard the attackers say “lots” of antisemitic things “suspects were praising the Iranian Ayatollah,” according to the report.

“The suspects are very antisemitic and they post on Instagram,” the tipster told police

The three suspects had previously posed with high-powered guns in chilling photos and videos posted online. Images and clips showed them holding handguns and semi-automatic AR-15-style rifles.

The three suspects appear to have known each other through the Bay Area’s Assyrian community.

Several other posts show Chamaki and the two Akoyans together at gun ranges, MMA fights and other social activities.

The three suspects couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
