A striking set of photographs released by North Korea’s state news agency, KCNA, on Friday showcases Kim Jong Un’s teenage daughter, Ju Ae, at the helm of an army tank, with her father seated behind her. This intriguing display has analysts speculating about her potential grooming as a successor to her father’s leadership.
In recent months, Ju Ae, who is estimated to be around 13 years old, has become a more visible presence alongside her father during public engagements. Her frequent appearances have sparked curiosity and discussion about her role in the regime’s future.
The latest images capture Ju Ae with a look of determined concentration, her hair swept back by the wind as she peers out from the driver’s hatch. Kim Jong Un, smiling broadly, leans against the tank’s turret, accompanied by three military officers in uniform seated on the hull.
Ju Ae’s involvement in military activities is not new, as earlier this month, she was seen at a firing range, taking aim with a rifle. Another occasion saw her handling a handgun with apparent ease.
Despite the growing public presence of Kim’s daughter, North Korean authorities have yet to officially acknowledge her name or precise age.
Coinciding with these events, Kim Jong Un supervised a demonstration of a new tank model on Thursday. This drill showcased the tank’s advanced offensive and defensive abilities, particularly its effectiveness against drones and anti-tank missiles, as per KCNA’s report.
Kim has in recent years pursued the modernization of the country’s conventional weapons, including tactical missiles, alongside the development of a strategic arsenal that includes long-range ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons.
