Trump Issues Ultimatum to Iran to Open Strait of Hormuz in 48 Hours

President Donald Trump has delivered a stern warning to Iran, stating that if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, the U.S. will target and destroy Iran’s power infrastructure within two days.

Trump took to Truth Social to announce, “Should Iran fail to FULLY OPEN the Strait of Hormuz, free from threats, within 48 HOURS, the United States will proceed to dismantle their power facilities, commencing with the largest.”

In a report by Kurt Zindulka for News, it was noted that more than 20 nations have jointly condemned Iran’s actions, criticizing the country for its attacks on non-military ships and energy infrastructure in the Gulf region.

In a related move, an Iranian official disclosed that Iran’s parliament is considering a policy to impose tolls and taxes on nations wishing to utilize the Strait of Hormuz.

Per Just Security, all military and civilian ships and aircraft are entitled to transit the Strait of Hormuz, provided they do so without delay, maintain normal operations, and do not engage in hostilities against any bordering country.

The website further explains that Iran’s blockade of the strait goes against the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and established international maritime law.

According to the Just Security website, “all vessels and aircraft—military and civilian—have the legal prerogative to exercise the right of transit passage through the Strait of Hormuz, provided that these ships and aircraft proceed without delay through the Strait of Hormuz, transit in their normal modes of operation, and refrain from using force against any nation bordering the Strait.”

“Iran’s actions to block the strait are contrary to both the letter and spirit of UNCLOS and applicable customary international law,” according to the website. UNCLOS stands for United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
