19-year-old killed by garbage truck while crossing street in NYC

In a tragic incident late Sunday night, a 19-year-old woman lost her life after being hit by a garbage truck in Queens, police reported.

The victim, identified as Nishath Jannath, was crossing the street at the intersection of 62nd Street and Roosevelt Avenue in the Woodside neighborhood. At approximately 11:55 p.m., she was struck by a sanitation truck from Royal Waste Services. The vehicle was navigating west on Roosevelt Avenue and made a right turn onto 62nd Street’s northbound lane when the collision occurred in the crosswalk.

Emergency medical services pronounced Jannath dead at the scene, marking a heartbreaking end to the young woman’s life.

The truck’s driver, a 38-year-old woman, stayed at the scene and received treatment for minor injuries. Despite the gravity of the situation, no arrests have been made as of now.

The NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad is actively probing the incident, working to uncover all the details surrounding this unfortunate event.

Royal Waste, which is based out of Jamaica, Queens, and boasts itself as the leading recycling company, in the city, did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
