Iconic 70s bassist from legendary band surfaces on rare outing

On Friday, a legendary figure from a renowned 70s band was spotted making a rare public appearance in Malibu.

The 78-year-old musician opted for a laid-back look as he shopped at the high-end grocery store Erewhon. His ensemble included indigo blue jeans paired with a long-sleeved brown shirt, creating a casual yet stylish appearance.

Keeping his signature long gray hair neatly pulled back into a low ponytail, he completed his look with a pair of round, dark sunglasses that added a touch of rockstar flair.

Exploring the upscale shopping scene solo, he sported black sneakers accented by white laces and soles, a subtle nod to classic style. The clean-shaven artist was later spotted loading his grocery purchases into his car trunk, appearing quite at ease with his routine.

Can you guess who this iconic bassist might be?

The mystery celebrity is none other than Timothy B. Schmit, who performed as part of The Eagles as well as Poco.

He replaced Randy Meisner, taking his spot in both bands and joining as a bassist and vocalist for the rock collectives.

Nearly three years ago The Eagles announced their final tour, The Long Goodbye, after more than 50 years in the industry.

The band formed in 1971 and in addition to Schmidt, is comprised of Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Vince Gill and Deacon Frey – who is the son of the late Glenn Frey, one of the founding members of the band.

They kicked off their farewell tour on September 7, 2023 in New York City.

‘Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle.

‘The official farewell tour is currently in the planning stages,’ the band said in a July 2023 statement.

The Hotel California band announced 13 tour dates, booking Steely Dan as an opening act.

‘The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds,’ the statement continued.

They concluded the emotional message by thanking their management team, road crew and backup musicians.

The Eagles started out as the backing band for singer Linda Ronstadt in 1971 and became one of the most successful American rock bands of the 1970s.

Founded by Frey, Henley, Bernie Leadon and Meisner, the group racked up five number one singles, six number one albums and six Grammy Awards.

Their self-titled debut album was released in 1971 and had two top 20 singles – Take It Easy and Witchy Woman.

However it’s their 1976 album Hotel California that is their most well-known, with the project selling over 26 million units in the US.
