E-4B ‘doomsday plane’ takes flight as Trump weighs strikes on Iran

A United States “doomsday plane” was observed flying over a strategic air force base in Nebraska on Monday, just as a critical deadline approached for Iran to accept President Trump’s proposed peace agreement.

This aircraft, a Boeing E-4B Nightwatch, is engineered to safeguard national security leaders and sustain government operations during a nuclear conflict. It was detected by flight monitoring services as it soared above Offutt Air Force Base, which houses the US Strategic Command headquarters.

Reports from the Daily Mail indicated that the plane departed from Offutt at 10:17 a.m. EST, completing at least six circuits in the vicinity before landing back at the base.

The movements of such aircraft are often closely watched during periods of heightened international tension. For instance, a similar flight drew attention last year just before the US collaborated with Israel on a 12-day campaign targeting Iran’s nuclear sites.

As of Tuesday, President Trump has issued a deadline for Iran to accept his peace proposal and to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Failing compliance, he has threatened to dismantle Iran’s infrastructure, targeting power plants and bridges.

“The entire nation could be neutralized in a single night, and that night may very well be tomorrow,” President Trump warned journalists at the White House on Monday.

The US has a fleet of four E-4Bs that make regular flights year-round to maintain military readiness.

The Nightwatch serves as an airborne command center for the president, secretary of defense and the chairs of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to ensure continued critical command, control and communication in case of emergencies.

With 18 bunks, a briefing room, teamwork area, conference room, command room, and designated rest area spread across three decks, the aircraft is designed to be a “flying Pentagon” in the event of a national emergency.

The plane is heavily modified to withstand nuclear blasts, cyberattacks, electromagnetic pulses, and other disasters that could threaten the US.

Each E-4B Nightwatch can carry a crew of up to 112 people and has a range of more than 7,000 miles.

The aircraft also has thermal and nuclear shielding and can communicate with anyone anywhere in the world, thanks to the 67 satellite dishes and antennas contained in its ray dome.
