Tory Lanez is seeking $1 million in compensation for each stab wound he endured, according to a startling lawsuit he has filed against the California Department of Corrections. The lawsuit is a result of an attack Lanez faced while incarcerated.

Currently serving time at the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, Lanez alleges that prison authorities failed to ensure his safety. The lawsuit claims that in May 2025, fellow inmate Santino Casio assaulted him with a homemade weapon at CCI Tehachapi, inflicting 16 stab wounds.

Daystar Peterson, known professionally as Tory Lanez, reportedly sustained injuries to his back, torso, head, and face in the attack. The lawsuit, as reported by The California Post, further reveals that he suffered from two collapsed lungs and will bear permanent scars from the incident.

The legal documents emphasize that housing Casio with Lanez posed a known or foreseeable threat. Casio is serving a life sentence for second-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder, involving the tragic death of his 13-year-old pregnant runaway girlfriend while he was on parole, the lawsuit notes.

Lanez claims his celebrity status made him a potential target and asserts that guards were absent when the assault began. The lawsuit criticizes the lack of immediate intervention, stating, “There were no flash grenades, smoke bombs, or rubber ammunition used to halt Casio’s repeated stabbing of Peterson.”

“There were not any flash grenades, smoke bombs, or rubber ammunition expelled to stop Casio from stabbing Peterson repeatedly,” the lawsuit states.

Lanez says when he was fighting for his life in a local hospital after the attack guards from the prison seized his song books which contained unpublished lyrics with “substantial commercial value.”

Lanez is asking for $100 million in damages in the lawsuit, including $1 million per stab wound.

“It is reasonable to value his damages, considering his celebrity status and earning potential, at $1 million per stab wound, $10 million due to facial scarring leading to career harm, $25 million for pain and suffering along with the property loss of his song books,” the documents state.

Lanez legal team also says he suffered emotional trauma, damage to his reputation and an ongoing safety risk … all adding to the damages. There has not yet been a finding of liability.

The singer is currently serving a ten year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot after an argument in 2020. The pair were partying at Kylie Jenner’s home before being chauffeured in an SUV with a friend.

At one point, Megan got out of the SUV and was shot in the foot as she stood on the sidewalk. Lanez has maintained his innocence.

Lanez was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He was sentenced in 2023.

The California Department of Corrections did not respond to a request for comment.
