Toddler falls from iconic Jersey Shore boardwalk sky ride in frightening scene

A terrifying moment on the Jersey Shore sent visitors rushing to react this week after a toddler slipped from one of Seaside Heights’ best-known boardwalk attractions, prompting her aunt to leap into action.

The scare happened Monday evening on Casino Pier’s Sky Ride, a chairlift-style ride that carries passengers above the Seaside Heights boardwalk, according to the Asbury Park Press.

The 2-year-old girl fell around 7:40 p.m. before the Sky Ride had begun moving, NJ.com reported. She landed near the point where the boardwalk meets the sand, the outlet said.

A 3-year-old boy who was seated with the girl and her aunt stayed on the chair as Casino Pier employees immediately stopped the ride.

Firefighters were called in and used a ladder to safely bring the boy down from the attraction.

The Sky Ride sits roughly 10 to 12 feet above the boardwalk, the Asbury Park Press reported.

Seaside Heights Fire Chief Tim Farrell told the newspaper that the child first fell onto an entrance platform located just below the chair before dropping onto the sand.

The 2-year-old girl fell at about 7:40 p.m. on the Sky Ride in Seaside Heights before the ride started moving.

Emergency medical personnel examined the toddler shortly after the fall. She and her aunt were later taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for further evaluation, according to reports.

Police told the Asbury Park Press the ride appeared to be functioning properly, with no apparent defects.

The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, which oversees amusement ride inspections and licensing, is investigating the incident, according to police.

There is no indication at this time of a ride malfunction.

Amusement park database Coasterpedia indicates that the Sky Ride was built by Borvig and opened at Casino Pier in 1983.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Seaside Heights Police Department and the Seaside Heights Fire Department for comment.

The Jersey Shore incident is the latest in a string of amusement park ride scares across the country.

A woman in Colorado recently suffered serious injuries after she was allegedly ejected from a roller coaster and dragged along the track while still strapped into her seat belt.

Earlier this spring, riders in Texas were left suspended about 200 feet in the air after a Six Flags amusement park ride was halted when a passenger pulled out a cellphone.
