In a chilling incident, a Wisconsin man has been accused of breaking into his former girlfriend’s residence and launching a brutal machete attack on her and her current partner. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old David Mairena-Garcia, is now behind bars at the Brown County Jail, facing charges including attempted murder following the violent episode that unfolded early Monday morning.

The Green Bay Police Department responded to an emergency call around 5:15 a.m. on that fateful day, reporting an assault involving an “edged weapon.” Arriving at the scene in Green Bay, Wisconsin, officers discovered a 26-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man suffering from severe injuries. Immediate medical attention was provided before they were transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Law enforcement apprehended Mairena-Garcia approximately three hours later during a traffic stop, bringing an end to a brief but intense manhunt. As revealed in a criminal complaint accessed by WLUK, a local Fox affiliate, both victims were familiar with the assailant. The woman, who shares a child with Mairena-Garcia, is his ex-girlfriend, while the man is her new partner.

The ex-girlfriend recounted to police that Mairena-Garcia used a key to enter the home unannounced. Once inside, she alleged, he launched into a silent but vicious assault, wielding the machete against them without uttering a word. Authorities noted that Mairena-Garcia targeted the new boyfriend, striking him on the shoulder, forearm, and leg. He also attacked the woman, inflicting head injuries and causing cuts to her hand and neck.

Adding a layer of foreboding to the attack, the woman revealed that Mairena-Garcia had previously issued multiple death threats via text and in person. This history of intimidation underscores the gravity of the charges he now faces as the legal process unfolds.

The woman told police that Mairena-Garcia “had already made several death threats to her by text message and in person.”

According to the complaint, Mairena-Garcia chased the new boyfriend down the street with the machete before getting into his vehicle and fleeing the scene. Police were able to track down his vehicle with Flock cameras and arrested him during a traffic stop at 8:35 a.m.

When police questioned Mairena-Garcia, he reportedly told them that when he saw his “wife” in bed with another man, he flew into a rage and “just want[ed] to kill them.”

Mairena-Garcia was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, both with enhancements for the use of a deadly weapon and one with an additional enhancement for domestic violence. He was also charged with two counts of aggravated battery, armed burglary, and bail jumping. His bond was set at $750,000, and he remains in custody at the Brown County Jail. His next court date is scheduled for May 19.
