Social media erupted with mockery on Monday following the resurfacing of a video featuring Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) mistakenly referring to World War II as “World War Eleven.” The clip, dated January 22, 2025, captures Omar alongside fellow congressional Democrats advocating for the repeal of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. This act was notably invoked by President Trump to expedite the deportation of suspected Venezuelan gang members residing illegally in the U.S.
During her remarks, Omar, a member of the progressive group known as the “Squad,” stated, “The last time the Alien Enemies Act was invoked, it was used to detain and deport German, Japanese, Italian immigrants during World War Eleven.” This verbal slip was quickly followed by a self-correction as she chuckled and amended, “Oh … two … sorry.”
President Trump has previously criticized Omar’s intellect, dubbing her “Low IQ Ilhan Omar” in a Truth Social post earlier this year. Following the resurfacing of the video, several social media users echoed Trump’s disparaging comments, seizing on the congresswoman’s slip-up to question her intelligence.
Omar quickly corrected herself after the verbal blunder.

President Trump has previously criticized the Minnesota Democratâs intelligence, referring to her as âLow IQ Ilhan Omar,â in a Truth Social post earlier this year, and several social media users hurled similar insults at Omar after watching the brutal gaffe.
âI canât believe this dummy is in Congress,â read an X post from Libs of TikTok, which included a clip of the Omarâs misstep.
âShe learned history at the Quality Learing Center,â MAGA influencer Sarah Sizzle wrote on X, referring to the infamous sign at a now- shuttered Minnesota day care center that was at the center of a fraud scandal last year.
âWas this for real? I thought it might be AI,â conservative columnist Ed Morrissey posted in disbelief.
Another X user responded with an AI-generated New York Times frontpage blaming Trump for starting âWorld War Eleven.â
One person argued Omar had âa case of the Bidenâsâ that day.
âThis is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the stupidist generation of politicians the world has witnessed,â another X user lamented.
Omarâs office did not immediately respond to The Postâs request for comment.
