An artist renowned for his collaborations with Disney parks has found himself at the center of an unusual theft, as a distinct tiki carving was taken from the Palm Springs home he meticulously designed. The artist, Josh Agle, who operates under the moniker Shag, has issued a lighthearted yet foreboding warning to the thief, suggesting they may have unwittingly invited a curse upon themselves.

Shag took to Instagram to announce the theft, sharing that one of the wooden tiki figures, which held personal significance, had disappeared from outside his residence. “This tiki was a gift from someone who crafted it after one of the tikis in my artwork,” he explained in his post.

In a plea mixed with humor and a touch of mysticism, Shag addressed the unknown bandit directly: “I know it’s a long shot, but if the person who took it happens to see this, return it and all will be forgiven. If not, beware, as the spirit within that tiki might ensure your days are filled with misfortune. Think carefully about your actions. Greg Brady faced the consequences; you might too.”

The tiki carvings are a testament to Shag’s distinctive “Tiki Modern” style, a unique blend of contemporary artistry and Polynesian-inspired pop art. These pieces are not merely decorative but integral to the artistic ambiance of the property.

The home, affectionately known as the “Shag House,” is a creative marvel. It is a transformed 1958 Alexander-style property that Shag has turned into what he describes as a “life-size painting,” reflecting his signature geometric aesthetic.

The residence, known as the “Shag House,” is a fully reimagined 1958 Alexander-style property turned into what Agle describes as a “life-size painting.”

Designed in collaboration with homeowner Brandon McBurney, the three-bedroom, two-bathroom residence is packed with bold colors, themed rooms and custom details meant to evoke a retro cocktail party vibe.

From its Mondrian-inspired green gates to oversized chartreuse front doors, the entry experience is intentionally theatrical.

The exterior leans heavily into Shag’s signature palette, lime green, orange, aqua, purple and white, with geometric patterns, breeze block walls, and dramatic architectural lines guiding visitors into the immersive space.

Inside and out, every element, from landscaping to fixtures, was curated to mirror the artist’s stylized midcentury illustrations.
