Rudy Giuliani 'cracking jokes' as he makes stunning recovery from health scare: son

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is showing signs of improvement in his battle with pneumonia. According to his son, Andrew Giuliani, the 81-year-old is now “cracking jokes” after previously being in critical condition.

“I have some positive news to share: Thank you all for the love and support you’ve shown my dad in the past few days,” Andrew expressed gratefully. “Just yesterday, he was in critical condition, so it’s a relief to report that he is now awake, off the ventilator, and even making jokes.”

Rudy Giuliani was hospitalized over the weekend following a bout with pneumonia, which he developed due to a respiratory illness linked to his exposure during the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. His condition was severe enough that he fell into a coma, but friends disclosed he regained consciousness on Monday.

Tom Von Essen, a close friend and former fire commissioner during Giuliani’s mayoral tenure, shared his optimism about Giuliani’s recovery, stating that things are looking brighter for the man often referred to as “America’s Mayor.”

He fell into a coma, but emerged from it Monday, his friends revealed.

Tom Von Essen, the former mayor’s friend and fire commissioner during 9/11, said said this morning that things are looking up for “America’s mayor.”

“It looks like Rudy’s has turned a corner. We hope he continues to improve,” said Von Essen, who has been briefed on his condition.

“I worry about him. What he has done for New York City and the compassion he showed 9/11 families is remarkable. I hope he has a great recovery.”
