Plainedge's Jaxson Torres throws back-to-back no-hitters

The tale of Plainedge’s right-handed pitcher Jaxson Torres couldn’t have been more perfect, as he recently achieved the remarkable feat of pitching consecutive no-hitters, contributing significantly to the Red Devils’ flawless 20-0 season.

“I was really hoping to achieve at least one this year,” shared Torres, a junior who is catching the attention of college scouts, in an interview with The Post.

Torres delivered his back-to-back no-hit performances against Locust Valley and Wantagh in late April, showcasing his exceptional talent on the mound.

The victory over Wantagh was particularly gratifying for Torres, who also plays quarterback in the fall. His football team faced defeat against Wantagh during the 2024 Nassau championship, making this triumph even sweeter.

“I’ve always had a bit of a grudge against them,” Torres confessed with a chuckle. “I despise losing, and being competitive, I constantly remind myself to excel when I’m pitching.”

Although these no-hitter moments were thrilling, they were not entirely new for the 17-year-old, who had previously thrown a no-hitter in the playoffs against Seaford last season. This time, he felt reassured knowing his fielders were ready to back him up if needed.

“Even if a kid hits a ball hard off me, I know my teammates are going to make the play,” said Torres.

He didn’t have much time to rest on his laurels, as Torres was called in for a no-out, bases-loaded jam last Monday against Valley Stream North.

“I struck out the side,” said Torres, whose superb hitless streak ended a few innings later.

Now he’s got bigger sights set, as in a playoff series rematch with the same school this weekend as the Red Devils seek to stay hot in the postseason.

Torres is also having some friendly competition with a close friend, fellow team ace Taylor Nitsch, for the most strikeouts this year.

Nitsch, also a wide receiver, is at 91 while Torres is at around 80.

But that’s just fun and games compared to the big-picture stuff.

“The only stat that counts is winning,” Torres said.
