Striking images emerged capturing the charred skeleton of an abandoned bus that erupted in flames beneath the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway on Wednesday evening.
According to the FDNY, firefighters responded to the blaze just before 7:50 p.m. They found the bus consumed by fire beneath the bustling expressway, near 19th Street between 3rd and 4th avenues in the Greenwood Heights neighborhood.
The fire, described as intense, was swiftly brought under control by the first units that arrived at the scene, as reported by officials.
Photos from the scene reveal the bus reduced to a hollow metal frame, remarkably standing upright amidst the debris as first responders inspected the aftermath. The vehicle’s bumper had detached, laying bare the scorched interior components, while all windows were obliterated.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in the wake of the incident, and the identity of the bus’s owner remains a mystery.
No injuries were reported in connection with the fire, and the owner of the bus is not yet known.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
