Ridgeview High School teacher arrested after deputies say he sent sexts to student

A Ridgeview High School instructor has been taken into custody following allegations of inappropriate conduct with a student. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has charged 48-year-old Christopher Suarez with six counts of transmitting harmful materials to a minor, along with a count of using a two-way communication device in the commission of a felony.

The situation came to light when a student reported receiving explicit photos and messages from Suarez. Acting promptly, the Clay County School District placed Suarez on administrative leave on May 19, 2026. The district swiftly restricted his access to school properties and deactivated his work-related technology accounts.

Investigations reveal that Suarez initiated contact with the student via social media earlier in the year. As the situation escalated, he allegedly sent sexually explicit images and messages, prompting the student’s report to school authorities.

Suarez was detained on Friday and is currently held at the Clay County Jail with a bond set at $525,021. This case underscores the importance of vigilance and prompt reporting when concerning behavior is observed, especially in educational settings.

Deputies said they found Suarez began communicating with the student on social media earlier in 2026, and in the days leading to the report, he sent sexually explicit images and messages to the student.

Suarez was arrested Friday on six counts of transmission of harmful materials to a minor, and one count of using a two-way communication device to commit a felony. He is being held in the Clay County Jail on a $525,021 bond.

Deputies say anyone with information about this case should reach out to Detective Andrew Carter at 904-264-6512 or acarter@claysheriff.com.

First Coast News reached out to the Clay County School District, who provided this statement:

“The safety, well-being, and trust of our students are the absolute highest priorities of Clay County District Schools. We maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy for any behavior that compromises student safety, and we will always act swiftly and decisively to protect our school communities.

Upon receiving a report on May 19, 2026, regarding allegations of inappropriate social media communication between a teacher and a student, the district took immediate action. Mr. Suarez was instantly removed from the classroom and placed on administrative leave. He was prohibited from entering any school board property, and his work technology accounts were immediately deactivated. To protect the integrity of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office’s active investigation, public notification and statements were deferred until an arrest was finalized.

The actions of this individual do not represent the values of Ridgeview High School, nor do they reflect the high standards and integrity of the dedicated educators who serve our students every day.

Because this remains an active law enforcement matter, school and district officials cannot provide further details or comment on specific aspects of the case. All inquiries regarding the criminal investigation, specific charges, or booking information must be directed to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.”

Ridgeview High School principal Becky Murphy reached out to parents with the same message. According to a district spokesperson, Suarez remains on administrative leave, and any formal separation or further disciplinary actions will proceed in accordance with district policy and due process.
