A Missouri woman, who had recently triumphed over cancer, was tragically killed when a gunman went on a shooting spree in a parking lot.
Amy Coon, 45, a grandmother who had successfully overcome Hodgkin lymphoma, lost her life when 27-year-old Allen Price allegedly began shooting with a rifle at a grocery store’s parking area.
The shooting took place on Memorial Day at a Cosentino’s Price Chopper, with gunfire breaking out just before 4:30 pm, as reported by the Kansas City Star.
Another victim, a 16-year-old store employee gathering shopping carts, was also shot and injured during the incident.
The teenager, whose identity has not been disclosed, is currently in intensive care.
According to Pleasant Hill Police Chief Tommy Wright, as reported by KSHB, two armed bystanders stepped in and managed to detain Price, potentially averting further tragedy.
Price turned the gun and shot himself in the head, but survived. He has since been in police custody at a local hospital.
The 27-year-old had previously been released on bond in a separate case, where he faced a charge of harassing family members and threatening to shoot them.

Price has been charged with first-degree murder, two counts of assault or attempted assault, and three counts of armed criminal action.
Charging documents obtained by the outlet show police identified the firearm as a Winchester .243-caliber rifle.
Police found three empty shell casings near Price. One was located inside the rifle and 20 more rounds were allegedly discovered on him.
Court documents also noted a concerning past regarding Price’s mental health, and records showing he admitted to having a shotgun at the time of his 2025 arrest.
However, Police Chief Wright does not believe the prior incident is connected to the shooting.
