Police in Fairfield are currently investigating a tragic shooting incident that took place after the Sem Yeto High School graduation ceremony in the Bay Area.
FAIRFIELD, Calif. — In a heartbreaking incident on Wednesday evening, one individual lost their life and three others were wounded in a shooting that unfolded following a graduation ceremony at Fairfield High School, as confirmed by the Fairfield Police Department.
The victim who died was identified as an 18-year-old. The other injured individuals include an 11-year-old, a 20-year-old, and a 25-year-old.
Authorities reported that officers were dispatched to the scene around 7:15 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire in the parking area of Fairfield High School, shortly after the conclusion of the Sem Yeto High School graduation ceremony, according to KXTV.
Four individuals sustained gunshot injuries, with one succumbing to their wounds. The remaining three victims were transported to a hospital for medical care.
Earlier in the evening, Suisun City Mayor Alma Hernandez took to Facebook to share that three people had been shot and mentioned an “active shooter chase,” adding to the urgency of the situation.
Fairfield Police have not released information about a suspect and did not provide details about any pursuit during a media briefing.
Ilana Israel Samuels, executive director of communications for the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, said the district was aware of the shooting after the graduation ceremony had ended.
“We are aware that there was a shooting after the Sem Yeto High School graduation ceremonies had ended, and are gathering details,” Samuels said in a statement. “Law enforcement is on campus, and as this is an active investigation, we have no additional information to share at this time. Our thoughts are with the individuals affected and as soon as we have more details we will share that with you.”
The investigation remains active. Police said detectives are interviewing witnesses and following leads but have not released information about a suspect, a possible motive or whether the shooting was targeted.
