Wilson Phillips singer Carnie Wilson, 56, makes rare appearance with daughter Lola, 19, on American Idol

Carnie Wilson proudly stood by as her daughter, Lola Bonfiglio, took a significant step in her musical journey by auditioning for American Idol.

At 19, Lola brought together a mini-reunion of the iconic music group Wilson Phillips, joined by her father, Rob Bonfiglio, to perform their classic hit “Hold On” for the audition. In a touching tribute, Lola filled in for Chyna Phillips, harmonizing beautifully with her mother and aunt, Wendy Wilson, on the beloved 1990s anthem.

The proud moment was immortalized by Carnie, 56, who joyously announced on Instagram that her daughter had received the coveted golden ticket, propelling her to the Hollywood rounds of the competition.

“Witnessing your child be brave and sing from her heart, and hearing three incredible artists praise her pure and gorgeous voice, truly shows that her passion for singing is genuine,” Carnie expressed in her heartfelt post, extending her gratitude to all who supported Lola.

‘I couldn’t be more proud of our @lola.bonfiglio,’ her caption began. ‘Her pure beautiful voice shines so bright!!!!! 

Following the airing of her audition on Sunday, Lola shared her own message on Instagram, posting a photo alongside her supportive parents and aunt Wendy Wilson, marking the occasion with gratitude and excitement for the journey ahead.

Chynna Phillips gushed over Lola’s performance in the comments on her post, ‘This was EXQUIZ!!!!  Lola, you are a natural! So freaking fun & exciting. Congratulations.’

Lola surprised the Idol judges and audience when she brought out her famous family members to sing with her before officially starting her audition. 

Carnie, Wendy, 55,  and Lola’s harmonies on Hold On left Carrie Underwood, 42, feeling emotional. 

‘I don’t know how to proceed now,’ the Jesus Take the Wheel singer teased.

Underwood noted that Lola’s talent was in her blood, saying, ‘You can tell that that is a thing with families, that everybody is genetically designed to sound good together.’

When it came time for Lola’s actual audition, she impressed the panel of judges with her take on Kacey Musgraves’ Rainbows.

Luke Bryan said the song perfectly suited ‘the tone and the pureness’ of Lola’s voice, while Lionel Richie encouraged her to ‘hold the story out longer.’

Carnie is the daughter of Beach Boys singer Brian Wilson and she and Bonfiglio married in 2000, welcoming Lola in 2005 and Luciana in 2009.

Carine talked about her daughter’s big moment in the spotlight with ET, saying she felt Idol was the pefect fit because it gives the contestants such a wide variety of musical artists to work with.

‘Lola is not this big Broadway-type singer, but she’s got something so honest and pure and lovely — sort of like this Joni Mitchell, Kacey Musgraves type of thing,’ Carnie told the outlet. ‘That’s how I compare it.’

She added that Lola has been expanding her songwriting, as well, ‘she’s really getting into her artistry.’

Carnie talked about the advice she’s given her daughter, 35 years after she catapulted to stardom alongside her sister Wendy and Chynna Phillips.

‘When you do this, just be grateful for the opportunity, A. And B, I think you’re gonna find yourself as an artist through this process.

She also commented on how it felt to see her daughter in her big moment 

‘I can’t describe the feeling. Just, the pride — I respect her for following her dream. 

‘This is not a forced thing, this is truly her calling, her passion, and her soul shines through when she sings,’ the proud mom said.
