Pima County Sheriff issues alert for kidnapping suspect 7 miles from  Nancy Guthrie's home

In a new twist to the investigation surrounding the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has issued an alert for another individual wanted in a nearby kidnapping case. This development comes as authorities continue their efforts to solve the mystery of Guthrie’s suspected abduction from her Arizona residence.

Just seven miles from Guthrie’s home in the Catalina Foothills, authorities are searching for Coral Michelle Smith, a 40-year-old with a long history of criminal activity. Smith is a suspect in a separate kidnapping and assault case that took place on May 29 at the intersection of River Road and La Cholla Boulevard in Tucson.

Pima County officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings of Smith, who is considered dangerous. However, they have chosen not to disclose further specifics about the case at this time, leaving the community with more questions than answers.

Despite the proximity of these incidents, there has been no indication from the authorities that Smith’s case is linked to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, who is the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie. Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home during the early hours of February 1, and her sudden absence has left her family and the community deeply concerned.

Smith’s criminal record is extensive; she has faced charges including kidnapping, assault, robbery, and disorderly conduct in Pima County over the years. Her troubled past has also seen her serve four separate prison sentences, highlighting the severity and persistence of her criminal behavior.

Smith has been previously accused of kidnapping, assault, robbery and disorderly conduct throughout the years in Pima County, and served four different stints in prison, according to court records.

She was found guilty of robbery in 2011, guilty of disorderly conduct and attempted vehicle theft in 2014, guilty of robbery in 2019 and guilty of criminal trespass in 2021.

She was also found guilty of attempted vehicle theft in 2022 and guilty of aggravated assault with physical injury in 2023.

The 2019 case involved kidnapping and drug charges, where the victim was listed as under 15 years old, according to court records. Those charges were eventually dismissed.

Smith has used several aliases, including Corral Albright, Coral Albright-Smith, and Under The Sea Smith, local 13 News reported.

Police described her as being 5-foot-6, 136 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Smith also has a number of tattoos on her, including a smiley face and heart on her right ankle, a rose with flames on her right foot, and the words “love, life, family” on her left leg.
