Vehicle was traveling 40 mph when officer pulled it over, police say
BELLE ISLE, Fla. – A driver was taken into custody and four passengers were issued citations after Belle Isle police shared a video on social media that captured the group dangerously riding on the hood of a moving car.
According to police, the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Monday. Officers stopped the vehicle, which was traveling at 40 mph through Belle Isle. The driver, identified as Gary Mathurin, received three citations and was arrested on charges of reckless driving.
“While we understand the desire to create lasting memories with friends, becoming an example of unsafe road behavior is not advisable,” the Belle Isle police stated in their social media post.
All four passengers who were found riding on the car’s exterior were cited for their actions. Additionally, one passenger was cited for having an open container.
