Samantha Busch reveals heartbreaking promise to Kyle on his deathbed

The heartbroken widow of NASCAR legend Kyle Busch has shared the vow she made to her husband just before his unexpected passing at the age of 41.

The racing community was left in shock and mourning last month when Busch succumbed to pneumonia, which rapidly progressed to sepsis, leading to his untimely death within a few short hours.

Samantha, who was by his side during his final moments, took to Instagram on Wednesday with a poignant message. She pledged to “do everything” to support their children in achieving their dreams, honoring the promise she made to Kyle.

The couple’s two children, 11-year-old Brexton and 4-year-old Lennix, are at the heart of this promise. On Monday, Brexton participated in his first race since losing his father, with Samantha providing steadfast support at his side.

In her Instagram post, Samantha shared touching family photos from the Charlotte Motor Speedway event, where a moment of silence was observed in Kyle’s memory.

Despite the emotional challenges of recent weeks, young Brexton managed to secure a sixth-place finish in the Young Lions division of the Cook Out Summer Shootout.

Samantha has revealed she made a promise to her late husband while he was on his deathbed

In her social media post, Samantha wrote: ‘Watching Brexton back at the track is both heartbreaking and beautiful all at once because there are moments when I catch a glimpse of Kyle in him, the same determination, the same passion, the same spark, and for a second it feels like a piece of him is still right here with us.

‘These moments are incredibly hard, but they also remind me that Kyle’s story isn’t over. It lives on through the dreams he inspired and the two children he loved more than anything.

‘In the hospital, I made Kyle a promise. I promised him that I would do everything I could to help our children pursue their dreams no matter what. For Brexton, that dream is racing.

‘It wasn’t a dream Kyle chose for him. It was something they shared. They spent countless hours talking about race cars, working together, dreaming together, and building a bond around something they both genuinely loved.

‘Racing is what lights Brexton up and as long as it’s the dream in his heart, I’ll be right there beside him, cheering him on every step of the way. And if one day his dreams take him somewhere else, that’s okay too.’

Lennix, just four years old, was also alongside her mom at the Charlotte Motor Speedway

Plenty of emotional tributes were made to the late NASCAR icon at the event on Monday

The emotional post then moved on to her daughter, who she is also pictured alongside in an image from Monday’s racing event.

‘And if Lennix wants to get behind the wheel (we just bought her a kart for her 4th bday) it won’t be the same as having Kyle by her side but we will do our absolute best,’ she added.

‘The racetrack has been home for our family for nearly 20 years. It’s where some of our greatest memories were made, where our kids grew up, and where so much of our life together happened. Right now when so much of our world feels unfamiliar it’s also one of the few places that still feels like home.

‘Every time we get to the track, we’re reminded that a piece of our team is missing. The person who should be standing beside us isn’t there. That part is heartbreaking. But it’s also where we feel closest to him, surrounded by the memories, the people, and the dreams he helped build. So, we race on.’

The post quickly went viral and messages of support flooded in for Samantha and her two young children.

Fans have been left stunned at the strength of Samantha since her husband’s shock death

Many fans shared that the post, and accompanying pictures, had made them cry.

One wrote: ‘There’s a certain kind of strength only mothers possess and this is a beautiful, shining example of that strength at work.’

Another added: ‘Continuing to pray for you and the family! You’re literally so strong and you show that in everything you do! Your kids see that and will be the same way. God will continue to get you through these unimaginable days.’

Last week, Kyle’s racing boss Richard Childress broke his silence on the sudden death of his driver, revealing that he had planned to announce Busch’s return to the team in 2027.

‘Today, we were going to be in here, Kyle was going to be with me and we were going to announce that he was coming back in 2027 and drive for RCR,’ Childress said.

‘And we wanted to do it up here at Michigan with our GM friends, with Chevrolet.’

‘And it didn’t happen,’ he continued. ‘This is a different type of media availability instead of a press conference that he was coming back and race for us in 27.’

The revelation that Busch had already agreed to return to RCR adds a new angle to the tragedy. The two-time Cup Series champion would have been heading into what promised to be a landmark chapter of his career.

RCR has now confirmed that Austin Hill will take over the No. 33 car for the remainder of the 2026 Cup Series season as the team navigates life without one of its cornerstone drivers.
