GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A 54-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday after police say she stole about $6,500 worth of tools from a trailer at a shopping center on Northwest 13th Street.
According to the Gainesville Police Department, the theft was reported around 9:30 a.m. June 15 in the 2300 block of NW 13th Street. An employee at a retail business told police he saw Grace Hope Collett walking behind the store with two shopping carts filled with tools. He then contacted two people who had been searching for the missing equipment.
A responding officer reported that one of the victims identified the tools as his property and estimated their value at roughly $6,500. The second victim told police he owned the trailer where the tools had been stored.
Collett, whose listed address is GRACE Marketplace, was charged with burglary of an unoccupied vehicle and grand theft of more than $5,000. Court records show she has one non-violent felony conviction and six non-violent misdemeanor convictions. She is also on probation after serving a two-month jail sentence earlier this year in a case involving the purchase of more than $700 worth of items with stolen credit cards.
Judge Joy Danne set Collett’s bail at $10,000.
