Florida Man Accused of Trying to Steal Medical Helicopter

A Florida man who allegedly claimed he had seen the anti-Christ is accused of attempting to take control of a medical helicopter at the scene of a crash authorities say he caused.

Riley Ferrer was traveling north on I-75 around midnight Friday when he lost control of his pickup truck, left the roadway, hit another vehicle and overturned into a wooded area, FOX 13 News reported.

Two people suffered serious injuries in the crash, prompting officials to call in a medical helicopter to transport them to a hospital.

To allow the helicopter to land safely, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office closed the northbound lanes of I-75.

As emergency crews prepared the injured patients for air transport, Ferrer allegedly tried unsuccessfully to hijack the aircraft.

Once law enforcement arrived, Ferrer was placed in the back of a patrol vehicle and taken to Tampa General Hospital Brooksville.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Ferrer refused to walk into the facility, forcing troopers to physically escort him inside, and he also refused to stay seated, requiring troopers to restrain him in place until deputies arrived.

After being medically cleared, Ferrer was transferred to the Hernando County Detention Center, where authorities said he continued resisting deputies upon arrival.

He faces three counts of resisting without violence and one count of burglary of an occupied conveyance.

Jail records show that he was issued a $3,000 bond for the resisting charges but he is being held with no bond for the burglary charge.

The medical condition of the other two people involved in the crash is not immediately clear.
