Humiliation for Scott Wiener as he's chased from San Francisco Trans March

Progressive congressional candidate Scott Wiener faced a hostile reception during Pride weekend in San Francisco, underscoring how sharply the war in Gaza has divided parts of the city’s left-leaning political base.

Wiener, widely viewed as a leading contender for Nancy Pelosi’s congressional seat if it becomes open, was confronted Friday at the city’s Trans March, a day after separate video showed a pro-Palestinian protester criticizing him inside a restaurant.

In footage from the march, a person filming Wiener as he walked through a park first appeared to praise the openly gay candidate for his work on “trans issues” before quickly turning to a sharp rebuke over his stance on Gaza.

“You’ve been terrible, you’ve been terrible on Gaza,” the person shouted. “You do not belong here anymore, Scott. And it breaks my f—ing heart. It breaks my heart. It breaks my heart that someone who wrote your legislation for queers is so f—ing terrible on Gaza, Scott. You have anything to say?”

Dimitry Yakoushkin, who posted the video on X, wrote: “Scott Wiener showed up to the trans march and for the first time we kicked his a— out.”

As the clip continues, several people can be seen crowding around Wiener, with one person raising a middle finger close to his face while the candidate avoids engaging with the group.

At one point, the person recording accused Wiener of having “stopped being queer the moment he started supporting Israel.”

Wiener, who is Jewish, had previously declined to describe Israel’s actions in Gaza as “genocide,” though he shifted his position in January after facing criticism for not directly calling out Israel during a debate.

“For those of you who saw the debate clip from last week, I want to clarify that I do believe Israel has committed genocide in Gaza,” Wiener said at the time. “To me the Israeli government has tried to destroy Gaza and to push Palestinians out. And that qualifies as genocide.”

Wiener will face off against Connie Chan, a San Francisco supervisor who earned Pelosi’s endorsement, in the November election for the former House speaker’s 11th congressional district seat.
