Mystery woman sought after American found dead in Costa Rican tourist destination

Authorities in Costa Rica are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a woman wanted in connection with the suspected killing of an American man discovered dead in late September.

Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Agency, the country’s FBI equivalent, released an appeal for information about the unidentified woman. The American victim, identified by authorities as “Fleming,” was found dead Sept. 27 inside a condominium near the beach.

Investigators said the 74-year-old entered a condominium in Playas del Coco, a coastal community in the popular tourist region along Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coast, at about 4:50 p.m. that day. Authorities allege the woman was later seen leaving the property without him.

Officials later found the man’s body, which showed head injuries believed to have been inflicted with blunt objects.

The suspect has not been identified. Investigators described her as having a fair complexion, a slender frame and black hair. She is believed to be about 1.60 meters tall.

According to authorities, the woman was wearing blue denim shorts, sandals and a white bra decorated with chain-like accessories when the alleged homicide occurred. Police surveillance footage also shows her walking along a street with another woman.
