President Donald Trump lets bipartisan housing bill become law without signing in protest over GOP voter ID law

WASHINGTON — A bipartisan housing affordability package has officially become law, even though President Donald Trump declined to sign it by Friday’s deadline.

Backers of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act describe it as the most sweeping federal housing overhaul in at least three decades.

Among its provisions, the law restricts large corporate investors that already own more than 350 homes from acquiring additional properties.

It also expands access to smaller mortgages intended to help lower-income buyers enter the housing market.
