CHICAGO () — A South Side family is pleading for help after their 9-year-old daughter’s service dog slipped out of the yard and was carried off by two young people seen on doorbell camera footage.
Blossom, an 11-month-old merle Yorkshire terrier, is a service dog for Damali Beene, a child with autism. Her family said the dog got through a wooden side fence Sunday evening while playing fetch outside their home in the 7500 block of South King Drive in Chicago’s Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.
Surveillance video from a doorbell camera shows Blossom approaching two young people on a motor scooter. In the recording, they appear to call the dog over before one of the girls picks her up, gets back on the scooter and leaves with the other rider.
“Picked her up, and was, like, ‘Look at this. Ok, go, go, go, go, go,’” Destiny Dockery said, describing what the family saw and heard on the video.
Relatives said the incident unfolded directly outside their home, near 76th Street and King Drive.
Since Blossom vanished, the family said they have searched local animal shelters, contacted veterinary clinics and posted fliers around the neighborhood, hoping someone will recognize the dog and help bring her back to Damali.

Dockery is urging anyone with information to come forward and help reunite Blossom with the child who depends on her.
“If their parents see it, their grandparents, just do the right thing,” she said.
The family filed a police report and said Blossom can be returned safely with no questions asked.
