A Michigan mother who was killed with her six children by her husband had previously accused him in emotional Reddit posts of cheating with a younger intern, according to a report.
Police said Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, shot and killed his wife, Amanda “Mandy” Karolkiewicz, 39, and their children, who ranged in age from 5 to 15, inside the family’s Grand Haven Township, Mich., home. Authorities said he then set the house on fire before dying by suicide.
Two years before the killings, Mandy Karolkiewicz wrote on Reddit under the username MandyK1179 that she was “living in a Hallmark Movie.” But other posts reviewed by the Detroit News painted a far more painful picture of her marriage, including allegations that her husband had been unfaithful.
In one 2024 Reddit post cited by the outlet, Karolkiewicz recalled meeting her older husband when she herself was an intern.
“He was divorced and older than me … fast forward ten years and five kids, he was cheating with the intern again — the same age I was when I was the intern,” Karolkiewicz wrote.
She described the aftermath as a period of deep anguish. “After about a year of self-loathing, I remember crying and looking at myself in the mirror and realizing how … I was the one who was living so miserably because of what he did,” she wrote.
“I finally realized that I had been the only person who has ever showed up for myself my whole entire life.”
Karolkiewicz also wrote that if not for the six children the couple shared — including two who were adopted — she would have left the marriage.
“I kept telling myself, ‘I love my kids more than I hate my husband right now.’ They have no idea — I faked it ’till we made it. We’re in a much better place 4.5 years out, but it’s still a fight to stay in a healthy place.”
